Adnan Amkhan Bayno
Adnan is the Acting Director of MC Academy.
Adnan has extensive academic experience: he has taught and supervised postgraduate students in a range of courses including energy security, international law, international economic law, international and european energy law, international investment and commercial arbitration, and the commercial laws of the Middle East.
In addition to his extensive academic experience, Adnan is a Chartered Arbitrator, a highly experienced international lawyer and international arbitration practitioner, both as counsel and arbitrator.
He has developed a reputation for his extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of international law, international energy law, the Energy Charter Treaty and Middle Eastern investment and commercial laws.
Adnan served as Head of the Legal Affairs Department of the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels from 2000-2004, during which time he was heavily involved in the negotiation of the Transit Protocol and the drafting of Model Agreements on the transportation of energy.
Before and after his time at the Energy Charter Secretariat, Adnan has advised governments, international organisations, multinational corporations and private clients on a wide range of issues relating to international law, energy law, international investment law, international commercial arbitration, Energy Charter Treaty, and Middle Eastern and Islamic laws. Adnan has given expert legal opinions before domestic and international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice, the International Chamber of Commerce and the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
Most recently, Adnan was a member of an international legal team that advised the Government of Bahrain on the implementation of BICI’s recommendations.
Administration & Project Development
Sana holds a Bachelor in Communication Studies (Morocco), a Master in Law and Management of Media (France) and a Master in Political Science (EUMETALIC Programme). She has also attended Roger Williams Universtiy (USA).
Sana is the recipient of many awards and scholarships, including: 10 top active youth to work with Restless Development, Ashoka Changemaker Award, Excellence Metropolian Scholarship; she has also been nominated for 2016 CIVICUS Nelson Mandela – Graça Machel Innovation Awards and the MENA Female leader for G(irls)20.
Before joining MC Academy Sana Afouaiz was active advocator for the empowerment of women in the MENA region. In pursuit of her research and various projects concerning the role of women in economic development, Sana travelled to more than 30 countries, campaigning for gender equality and highlighting the economic, cultural and other difficulties faced by young women.
Sana is the founder of Womenpreneur Inititative platform, which offers programmes on entrepreneurship and business development for women in the MENA region.
Sana is fluent in French, Arabic and English.
Nia is a qualified lawyer in both England & Wales and Russia. She specialises in all aspects of international commercial dispute resolution and international finance & banking law.
Before joining Mena Chambers, Nia worked on multi-million dollar cross-border disputes. Most notably, she was involved in commercial litigation between Russian entrepreneurs for one of the largest claims brought before the English High Court.
Nia graduated from Queen Mary University of London with an LLM degree in Banking and Finance law. She also holds an LLM in International and European Business Law from KU Leuven (Cum Laude).
